Dump Trucks make me smile

You know how you can smell something and it will take you back to another place and time? Well dump trucks will do that for me. When I was growing up I spent a lot of time with my grandparents. My grandfather was a general contractor. He built beautiful homes and my Grandmother decorated them. I spent many happy hours in houses that were being built. I still love the smell of fresh cut wood, dry wall, paint ... it all reminds me of Grandpa. I don't think I was more than about four when Grandpa brought home his new dump truck with a red cab. I loved that truck. I love to ride in it. I love to get into the back of it, I loved the way it smelled everything about it was just fun. I spent many hours playing in the back of it pretending I was somewhere else. I would even dance in the bed of the truck it had a great sound it to! As I got older I worked side by side with my Grandpa many times it was loading or unloading the truck. I think the worse thing I ever had to do was help him unload cinder blocks. We always worked hard he taught me by example the value of hard work. He also like to have fun we spend a lot of time together on the lake fishing. I loved to be with him didn't matter if it was work or play. The pay was always great and usually involved fishing after we were done.
I passed a Dump truck today and I smiled.

This post made me smile. When I think of your grandfather I think of sweet coffee, waffles and boiled peanuts. He made simple pleasures real treats.

How fun! I love those smells too. My dad was a contractor as well and he always smelled of sawdust. My other favorite is the red socks (from the red chalk lines)

It's funny what can spark a precious memory. I love the smell of freshly cut wood for a fireplace...it always makes me think of home and growing up. Thanks for visiting my blog. I LOVE meeting fellow members of the church!

Nice post. Freshly cut wood does that for me. And the smell of an auto mechanic shop. Memories of dad and an uncle.

Awww.... I love when something triggers memories that are so great like that. Grandparents can make such great impressions on our lives. :)

Visiting form SITS, your name was above mine on roll call.
